‘In April 2008, I was asked to write a review when I was given a DVD box set with the name of an unknown filmmaker and the titles of unknown films. I was plunged into a mysterious realm, where I had no idea of the wonders to come, both in terms of the films and the filmmaker's personality. I was quickly seduced by the melancholy and beauty of the first film I saw, L'Amour à la mer, and was eager to discover Au pan coupé and Le Clair de terre; the same content, the same depth.

And so began the long search and exhilarating adventure of which this book is the outcome.
