‘When I was 15, 16, 17, I used to take great pleasure in making my 6x6 colour slides, seeing the world move on the surface of the frosted film and then contemplating my little transparent squares, burning impressions of who I was and what I loved.

The light of sunset through the trees, the faces of Pierre, my little brother, Michel and our ancestors, the curve of our hill, the profile of our house... The words followed with the same clumsiness, the same stubbornness; what mattered was to bear witness, urgently, as if the world had been waiting for me!
