Several years before the Ministries of Culture and Health drew up their partnership agreement, at a time when artists had yet to be mobilised by the hospital institution, the composer spent seven months on the ninth floor of the Delafontaine hospital in Saint-Denis, setting up a large-scale, highly original project. He set up a vast permanent cultural space, organised artistic activities there, created a sound memory of all the places and times of care, and then wrote a musical work to be performed in concert in the hospital itself, by a large number of performers, professionals, care staff and local residents - patients and non-patients alike.

Through his artistic project, his unique contemporary writing, his research into scenography and performance, and above all his constant presence, Nicolas Frize is questioning the place, care practices, professional and social relations, uses and sound environments, and laying the foundations for the role of art outside its usual distribution frameworks, in listening to the times.

Is care an objective practice, is it sensitive or technical, is the hospital a public institution like the hospital?
