Né en 1964 à Wuxi en Chine, Miao Xiaochun vit à Pékin où il est actuellement professeur à l’Académie Centrale des Beaux-arts. Formé aux arts classiques, reconnu d’abord en tant que peintre, puis photographe suite à sa formation à la Kunsthochschule de Kassel (Allemagne), Miao Xiaochun se dirige vers l’art numérique en 2005. Son œuvre interroge inlassablement le statut de l’image et son appropriation. Développeur de la « peinture algorithmique », il crée des compositions complexes et foisonnantes où le temps et le mouvement tordent notre perception de l’image. Son œuvre cite et se réfère continuellement aux chefs d’oeuvres de l’art classique, de Sandro Botticelli à Raphaël, de Pieter Brueghel à Théodore Géricault dans un véritable hommage jubilatoire. L’artiste crée ainsi un nouvel espace oscillant entre virtualité et matérialité, offrant une vision transversale et temporelle de l’art, traçant une nouvelle voie dans l’expression artistique sous le sceau du numérique.

Miao Xiaochun was born in 1964 in Wuxi, in China's liangsu province. He teaches at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. After earning recognition as a painter, then as a photographer after a postgraduate course at the Kunsthochschule in Kassel (Germany), Miao Xiaochun turned his attention to digital art in 2005, His work is a ceaseless exploration of the status and appropriation of images.
A specialist in "algorithmic painting", he creates complex, swarming compositions in which the viewer's perception is distorted by time and motion. His work contains constant references to the great masters art-Sandro Botticelli, Raphael, Pieter Brueghel, Theodore Geiring-to whom he pays jubilant tribute. By creating a new space between virtuality and materiality, Miao Xiaochun proposes a transverse, time-related view of art-a new artistic path, paved by digital technology.
