Nicknamed The Eye of Istanbul, Ara Güler began his career as a journalist in 1950 at the newspaper Yeni Istanbul, photographing Turkey in depth. But he did not stop there, publishing for Stern, Paris Match and The Sunday Times, and in 1961 became the only Turkish member of the American Society for Media Photographers.
