"It was the period when the New Novel began. I immersed myself in it and the result was Méditerranée. One night I said to myself: I'm going to do a tour of the Mediterranean. It was a way of coming full circle." Greek temples in ruins, Egyptian pyramids, a Sicilian palace, an orange in an orchard, a woman buttoning her tunic, a young girl asleep before an operation: fifteen countries, thirty-five thousand kilometres, a mythical film at the origins of our civilisation and of cinema.
