José Ramón Bas is unclassifiable, a poet and a traveller, attentive to the people he meets and the spaces he crosses; he is not concerned with putting together a body of work, but sets out with each project to recreate the times of travel, in Africa, Cuba, Brazil. During his travels, he photographed in a playful, compulsive way, then on his return to Spain, he transformed the images into objects. This is when his work begins: he has prints made on which, depending on his mood, the inspiration of the moment, the memory he has of the moment of the photo, he writes on it, scratches it, paints it or simply draws on it, before freezing it in a resin inclusion. Each chosen image will open up to an infinite number of possibilities, which he will produce in a variety of formats, with his own requirement to relate his memory of the travel experience.
